The Tivalì kitchen by Italian design company Dada has been named a finalist in the Best Kitchen System category for the Grand Design Live Awards 2007.
Distributed exclusively by London-based Ergonom, Tivalì is a compact but complete kitchen that can be closed up and hidden from view behind its own folding doors when not in use so that it becomes, quite literally, part of the furniture.
Grand Design Live Awards Event Director Justin Levett said Tivalì was selected as one of six outstanding kitchens from over 60 entries.
‘The judges look for something that is at once unique, aesthetically pleasing and practical. But the Awards are not just about good design: the product has to improve and enhance the user’s life in some way,’ he said.
‘We also take into consideration price point: it has to be within reach. Some of the entries in the kitchen category were hugely expensive. Tivoli in particular strikes the right balance of elements. It looks good, is easy to use and works well, and offers value for money. The judges also really liked the folding door system.’
Grand Design Live is an offshoot of the Channel 4 television show of the same name. In their second year, the Awards attracted over 1000 entries across 17 categories, from which five or six finalists were chosen per category.
‘This is the first time we’ve entered Tivalì into such a competition, and we’re very proud of the result,’ said Ian Larby Contract Sales Manager for Ergonom.
‘I was waiting for the right opportunity to bring it to the public’s attention. It’s the perfect high performance kitchen for high end city living, as it helps maximise valuable square footage of a pied-a-terre, small flat or even an office.’
Tivalì can be positioned in the middle of a room to divide the space in two, for example: the front of the unit might be decorated in keeping with a dining room, while a plasma screen can be hung on the back to face the living area.
Available in two sizes - 2.6 metres wide x 750 millimetres deep and 3.2 metres wide x 900 millimetres deep and several configurations, Tivalì accommodates a wide range of standard sized appliances and can be decorated in an infinite spectrum of finishes, lacquers, veneers and laminates.
In short, Tivalì features many ingenious space-saving attributes that do not sacrifice functionality, quality or beauty and would please the most discerning home chef.
